I have always been very passionate about giving back to my community. Many people define giving back differently, but I look at giving back as where you give, and then nothing happens. No benefits for you, no recognition, nothing tangible gets sent your way. Your biggest and sole reward is the realization that you’ve made a significant change in someone’s life. And if not “significant” then a positive change nevertheless.
I have always admired the work that Rick Akwo and his Generosity Global Team are doing, and the impact they are making around the world. Who is Generosity Global? Generosity Global is a 501 (c)3 non profit organization based in Columbia, Maryland. 100% of your donation is fully tax-deductible and it goes into furthering their mission. Their mission is Using the power of generosity to serve and improve the lives of people around the world. They give clean water in Africa, They give food to the homeless in Baltimore, MD and They give showers.
This guy, Rich Akwo, believes in total transparency, and frequently post the financials of this amazing organization on social media. I admire that alot.
So, I reached out to Rich, and asked him how I can get involved, and support his mission. He invited me to one of their programs - Selfless Saturdays, which happens every second Saturday of each month at 907 E Saratoga St, Baltimore, MD 21202 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
I also wanted to use this opportunity to inspire my little nephew, Brendan, and give him another perspective in life so I brought him along to serve.
I was very touched by what I saw, and we were happy to be a part of the many selfless volunteers. One of them being Stanlo Akisah from Stanlion Clothing.
Like Rich said; through serving, we are forging real relationships, friendships and trust as we build a bridge of hope into the homeless community, understanding their most important needs and doing our part to transition people from crisis to self-sufficiency.
I look forward in being a part of the many more Selfless Saturdays to come in the future.
I encourage you to get involve by volunteering your time, or support this amazing organizing by giving financially.
Also, Rich, and his team are having a fundraising Gala, MISSION BALL 2019, on September 28 at the Silver Spring Civic Center to raise funds for sustainable CLEAN WATER projects in sub Saharan Africa. Over the last 3 years, his organization, Generosity Global Inc, has raised funds for water projects in Cameroon, Africa. To date, we have successfully completed 10 water projects, giving 17,000 people access to CLEAN DRINKING WATER, something they never had before.
